Location: Houston, TX
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Schedule: Monday–Thursday onsite; Friday remote
Rate: $55/hr

Position Overview

We are seeking a Contracts Specialist III / Contracts Analyst with recent, hands-on experience negotiating energy trading agreements. This role will support physical power and natural gas transactions while helping manage contractual, credit, legal, compliance, and operational risk.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience negotiating EEI Master Agreements and NAESB agreements and a strong understanding of the energy commodities and trading environment. The hiring team is prioritizing candidates with current or very recent energy industry experience and direct contract negotiation experience over title or seniority level.

Strong mid-level candidates with relevant energy market experience are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage energy trading agreements and related contractual documentation.
  • Negotiate EEI Master Agreements, Gas NAESB Agreements, NGL NAESB Agreements, and related amendments.
  • Manage assignments, novations, and other ancillary agreements.
  • Independently negotiate contractual terms while balancing commercial objectives and risk management requirements.
  • Apply contracting, credit, treasury, legal, and compliance requirements when negotiating agreements.
  • Analyze contractual language, identify potential risks, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Coordinate with Credit, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Commercial teams to resolve contractual issues.
  • Develop and maintain agreement templates and contract provisions.
  • Manage contract workflows, status tracking, and document repositories.
  • Maintain agreement databases and ensure contract records remain accurate and current.
  • Support contract creation, modification, assignment, novation, and termination activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve contract processes and strengthen controls.
  • Support special projects involving energy trading agreements and commercial contracting activities.

Required Qualifications

Contract Negotiation

  • Recent experience negotiating and managing:
    • EEI Master Agreements
    • Gas NAESB Agreements
    • NGL NAESB Agreements
    • Contract amendments
    • Assignments and novations
    • Related ancillary agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to independently negotiate contractual terms.
  • Strong contract drafting and document management experience.

Energy Industry Experience

  • Current or very recent experience within the energy industry.
  • Experience supporting:
    • Physical power transactions
    • Natural gas transactions
    • Financially and/or physically settled commodity transactions
  • Working knowledge of energy, commodities, and derivatives markets.
  • Experience supporting energy trading, marketing, or commercial organizations.

Risk & Regulatory Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of legal, credit, compliance, and operational risks associated with energy trading agreements.
  • Ability to analyze legal language, identify contractual risks, and recommend solutions.
  • Knowledge of Dodd-Frank requirements and their impact on energy trading contracts.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Experience maintaining agreement databases and contract records.
  • Experience tracking contract workflows and managing document repositories.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of directly relevant contracts experience.
  • Experience with:
    • ISDA Agreements
    • EEI Agreements
    • Gas and NGL NAESB Agreements
    • Industry General Terms & Conditions
    • Assignments and Novations
  • Experience supporting energy trading, marketing, or commercial organizations.
  • Ability to quickly onboard and contribute with minimal training.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a mid-level energy contracts professional who has recently negotiated trading agreements and understands the commercial and risk considerations associated with physical power and natural gas transactions.

Candidates with strong EEI and NAESB negotiation experience and current energy industry knowledge are strongly preferred.
